This is a picture I came across of Ozzie with one of his littermates when he was 7 weeks old. We picked him up the next week. What a pitiful little boy he was, I don't think I believed that he'd really be the BIG bundle of joy that he's turned out to be. LOL.

I'll admit that I was surprised that Ozzie only gained 3 pounds last month because he LOOKS enormous to me. I've been making both dogs sit and wait to go out the screen door, in self-defense really because Ozzie knows that if he head-butts the screen he can create his own doggie door!
funny about the screen. delilah (great dane mix, now passed) went through our patio screen door once. she popped the entire thing off the house and it was bent in 1/2 - she was completely fine, just a little confused

i always have them "wait" by the door for the OK now, too.

Wow, I guess I should be glad they just popped out the screen! Zoe didn't gorilla the screen BO (before Ozzie). Okay, once or twice when the dog next door jumped the fence and was on the other side of the screen wanting to play, but that was it. I think I created the monster during Ozzie's housebreaking, by responding to him being at the door and letting me know that he needed to go out by flying across the room and opening the French door, getting them all excited, and then they'd be rushing to be the first one out the door to the lanai. I guess I was afraid that if he was stopped on his way out he'd pee in the house. Funny how you can usually figure out that your dog's bad habits are related to what you yourself did. My husband was away for the weekend and he will be amazed (and relieved) at how nicely they sit there waiting to go out now. All bets are off when their buddy Sammy is out there wanting to play however. Sammy has been away too, when he gets back it'll be the true test. LOL.

I haven't had Ozzie weighed since he was a year old, so he is due. I had to get a new computer and I haven't been able to get on this site with the new computer since then. Obviously it's fixed now, but I have a lot of catching up to do. The old computer was done in by none other than the Oz-man. I was in my recliner with my feet up and the laptop in my lap, and he came up beside me and 'nudged' the computer screen out of his way, breaking one of the hinges. It kept working for a while there, but I decided that I was pressing my luck. Funny how you figure out what you did wrong with a puppy when it's too late to fix it. I used to hold him on my chest, with a chew toy so he didn't chew on me, and read or have the computer on my lap. Now he comes over with a gigantic, heavy chew bone in his mouth and plops his head onto my chest. I don't know if I'm going to lose an eye, a tooth, or just another computer. I'm sure when he looks adoringly up at me it looks just the same to him, but when I look down on him... not so much...

Ozzie is now 19 months old and still has a lot of filling out to do but I think he looks great. Such a nice dog, very easy going and low key. It probably helps that he has Zoe our labradoodle (92 pounds) to wrestle with every day and for company. I'm sure he isn't the ideal physical specimen of a mastiff, but I'd put his personality up against any dog. I've never seen anyone mention their killer tails though. I've had a lot of dogs in my life, and while they may wag their tails and 'sweep' something off the furniture, Ozzie's tail feels like a whip... just ask the grandkids! LOL.
