Full Version: Puppy Food Debate

I researched and researched a ton of dog food. I have 6 dogs, each are on a different food. Fromms, Evo, Kirkland, Orijen, and Dick VanPatten's Natural Balance LID. Yes, I spend a ton of $ on premium dog food!
My question is- that I was told by several sources that Mastiffs are genetically predispositioned to grow a certain height and weight and it is our jobs to slow them down as get them to grow evenly and proportionally. So, the decision I made to feed my puppy a 2/3 combo of adult Kirkland and 1/3 combo of small bite Evo. I also give a 1/2 scoop of Nupro each day, divided into 4 meals. And Dick Van Patten's food roll, maybe a tbsp or so mixed in his bowl.
So am I crazy food mama? Each of these ingrediants are excellent sources of nutrition. I just need input .
Yep, your crazy... Big Grin

The first and most obvious question... Why all the different foods?
They are all top quality foods, so why not choose one and stick with it?

For example, we feed Yogi Fromm, but alternate between the flavors in the 4 star line for variety. Occasionally we'll mix in some Natural Balance food roll with his food as a special treat (he really likes the Lamb flavor).
The same reason my 4 kids do not eat the same food each & every time. (Although I wish!) But no, I do not cater to my kids- everyone gets the same breakfast and dinner. Smile
So, Riley and PJ are on Fromm's Adult Lamb and Rice. Riley is a Miniature American Eskimo who is 15! PJ is a retired breeding champion breeding bitch I adopted at 6 years old, she is 10. Izzy is a 4 year old Rottweiller with allergies. She is on no-grain- I feed her Orijen or Acanna, which ever I happen to buy. I can interchange either with no poop issues and she's VERY, very picky. I rescued Izzy at 10 months from an abusive breeder. He was training her to show too aggressively.
Bruno, my 2 year old Golden, back yard bred, has terrible tummy issues and the only food that works is Dick V. Patten's Natural Balance LID. If he even eats one kibble of someone elses, then we see the poopies for a day or two. Delilah, my 2 year old excellantly-bred Golden, is on Kirkland/Evo combo, the same as Theophilus. (AND, Delilah and I are a registered Pet Therapy Team through Delta Society!) I LOVE Evo but there's way too much protein in it. Also, everyone gets Nupro. Any one reading this should look it up. http://www.nuprosupplements.com
OK- I think theres the short answer Smile Yep, I'm nuts-o!!!
Theophilus is growing well. I wish I could upload pictures but my files are too big...so I'm not sure how to decrease the size of them.
Off to feed the puppy!
I got my answer just by writing it all out and solved my own issues. Thanks for all of those who looked
