So our family has been blessed Theophilus- an Old English Mastiff (or as they say English Mastiff.)
He is an absolute doll. Sweet, gentle, is in love with people-
Theophilus is a little shy around rough dogs (rightfully so)
Sooooo------my question is that are English Mastiffs normally this perfect? Is this the general breed personality? I am absolutely in love- and I can't imagine a more amazing breed-
Did everyone else have this type of experience or am I nuts???
Oh, I totally agree. Ozzie has been the easiest puppy to raise, probably because he had Zoe, our labradoodle, to play with so he didn't direct all of his energy toward getting into trouble. Zoe is BUSY all the time, patrolling the yard for lizards or squirrels to chase, and Ozzie is laying in the sun with a stick. When we were deciding to adopt him I told myself that he'd be someone for Zoe to play with, so her life would be more fun, but I didn't think he'd make her any more crazy than she already was, and it truly worked out that way. I am an admitted rosy-glasses type, but lucky for all of us this particular expectation worked out. All the neighbors that we see on the walk love him, and he approaches every person and dog with his tail wagging, sure that they are there just to pet him. He is the nicest dog! The gentle giant thing? Sure applies to Ozzie.

Oh, and since he has Zoe and the shepherd mix next door to play with he is not at all afraid to rough-house. But we have mostly small dogs that we meet on our walks, and he lays down to visit with them, charming the heck out of their owners.
Thank you! We're praying that we can get Theophilus' sister, Lily. I am hoping it's A GO.
We couldn't be a happier family. Brewing beer (homebrewers) and just talked to the breeder today. We will take Lily home soon. I will post it all- but she's a brindle baby-
