Hi! We are first time mastiff owners & found this site interesting & helpful to hopefully keep our "little" boy on track!!
Name: Optimus
Breed: English Mastiff
DOB: Feb. 7/2010
Food: Nutram Large Breed Puppy
Sire: 161 lbs @ 12 months (not full grown he is only 18 months now)
Damn: 145 lbs
(Optimus' Grandpa...on the dads side is 265 lbs, so I'm assuming papa will be a big boy too!)
3.5wks - 4 lbs
5 wks - 10 lbs
6 wks - 14.5 lbs
9 wks - 22.4 lbs
10.5 wks - 29.8 lbs
11 wks - 32.8 lbs
Oh! I forgot to mention that any/all feedback would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!
Opitimus is positively gorgeous. Looks like a different species of dog from what Ozzie looked like at 11 weeks. Gonna be a big boy like Yogi!

Hi! I was wondering if anyone can help me out with a question about how Optimus is eating...since we got him (@ 8.5 wks) he has been REALLY good about eating, he won't stuff himself full, if he is full he'll just leave his dish even if another dog is around and if he finishes his food and is still hungry he will H-O-W-L! It is quite adorable actually...but in the past couple weeks it seems like he could really care less about his food. He still looks great & is his usual self but he is just less interested in food. Is this just a growth stage they go through?? (He is 12 weeks today...I will weigh him when I get home and see how big my boy is today!)
Thanks for any input!

Optimus has his 12 week shots this week so we'll get an "official" weight. He is such a cool dude!

We have REALLY noticed his head & paws getting HUGE...I think a big growth spurt is coming up soon....
I added a few pics: the black&white is the day we got him up until Mike holding him last week, figured it would be funny to look at that pic when he's 200lbs+
Optimus got his big boy shots yesterday (12 week shots), and everything went well. He weighs just less than 40 lbs, but I will weigh him again on Sunday to see his 13 week weight.
He went through a weird phase of barely eating his food, but still acting his normal self...but now he gobbles it all up! So Yay!
Here are a few pictures of him on the run, his ears just crack me up!! He has this "charge the camera" habit so I snuck up when he was sitting up on the hill and when he seen me he bolted right for me...too cute.

Last weekend was opening weekend for walleye fishing here...so we went camping & man oh man does Optimus LOVE being out in the bush with the whole family playing outside with him!! He was hilarious to watch running around checking everything out.
I can't believe my Marley looks almost identical she's just 11 weeks but same weight as Optimus at same age.....same way they sit, lounge and want to cuddle on your lap....uncanny really !

We have moved to a new house with lots of room now & Optimus is LOVING having a big yard!! He is now a champ at boat rides & learning that he doesn't have to be glued to our sides he can wander out in the open yard, but he is still very good at staying close & not wondering past his boundaries!! He is getting very big, and has recently been VERY SLEEPY & eating lots...I see another growth spurt coming on!!

Today is Optimus' 4 month Bday!! I can't believe he is almost 60 pounds!! He really slowed down between 14-16 weeks, but we were doing a lot of moving & it was very hectic. We are now settled in our new house with 2.5 acres of property and he gained 6.8 lbs in the past week. Apparently he is settled in quite well!! He is loving having so much room to play & his appetite seemed to pick up once we were both less stressed. His quirky personality (...or is it "dog-onality"?? lol) keeps us cracking up all the time.
Gotta love these goofy pups!!

Very cute. Looks and sounds just like our Maggie. It's funny how many brindles I am seeing on this site. Not used to seeing so many. Best dogs ever.

My brindle mastiff was the best dog ever but, after he passed, I had to do something different. Now I am smitten with ALL mastiffs. This fawn boy I have now is such a sweetheart! Attached is a pic of my dearly departed boy, Aikado.

Lots of brindles on this site, though. Fer sure.

Very handsome man, by the way. Jeez. I can't believe I forgot to say that!

I'm sure it won't be long!! He is going through a ridiculous growth spurt!! Just making sure he's getting lots of rest & lots of puppy massages!! I was looking at everyones growth charts & he slowed down so much in the past couple weeks I thought there was no way he's make the 100 mark by 6 months (which seems average), but now that he's picked back up again I won't be surprised if he hits 100lbs by August, no problem!! I feel bad he must have such growing pains!!
Optimus is just shy of 70 lbs and just shy of 20 wks.
He is a complete goof ball and thinks that running full speed is now the coolest thing, I think it is because he is finally in a coordinated stage where he doesn't trip and fall when he tries to run!!
He is learning to swim, slowly getting better he goes out in the water on his own now even if nobody is in the water which is a BIG step for him...I'm not sure if they are really "swimming" dogs...he has webbed feet though so I'm sure he can swim? He swam out to me when I was swimming last week it was hilarious because he is normally scared of waves & water when he can't touch bottom!! I directed him back to shore then when he came out the SECOND time he just started sinking!!!! Not sure if he was just tired or if he's not the good of a swimmer?? Oh well...he likes splashing in the water at the LITTLE beach at our lakefront here.
So happy Brooklyn is feeling better!!! We were worried & it was a real eye opener that we need to keep a close eye on our boy as we live at a MINIMUM 3 hrs from a vet and I'm not even sure if they are able to deal with bloat if it occurs as it is another small town....the nearest major city is at least 6 hrs away...so cross your fingers and paws for me that we never need to make that emergency trip!!!

This is me & Optimus being "too cool" lol!

His growth has been slow, but steady. He is getting tall about 25'' at the shoulder but over 26'' at the hips right now. He is still a total goof ball and cracks us up all the time...His eating is odd. Sometimes he will eat less than 6 cups in a day, and other days he will eat up to 9 cups. Depends on his amount of growing I guess but he looks great!!

When Peabody was a puppy, he had a really hard time staying afloat, too. I think it's because they have so much bone vs. fat and muscle while they're growing that they just can't stay up. I had to keep propping him up, but I kept at it and eventually he got the hang of it. He LOVES swimming now, but every now and then he'll get distracted and forget to paddle. lol. Mowgli sinks like a rock.

I haven't tried it but the XL looks like it would actually be big enough.
