any opinions on this for behavor control...it's actually for diggin in my gardens I'm considering this for. Remote from afar without inhuman means unless you think a squirt is?
I have heard these are basically useless. A better way to stop digging is to give them an appropriate place to dig and prasie when they dig there. Loosen up some dirt hide some doggy treats and encourage your pup to dig. Once she starts digging in your garden, a firm no and redirection to the "proper" spot and then praise and treats when she digs there should have her only digging in the right spot in no time at all. when we wish our dogs would not display certain behaviours its best to substitute an appropriate behaviour for the behaviour we wish to eliminate. Good luck!
I agree with Mabelmom. They rarely work right and your timing with the remote has to be perfect. If you forget to trigger the collar even once, he will learn that there might not be a consequence for his behavior and continue digging to test his boundaries. Also, it is easy to confuse a dog as to what behavior you are punishing. If you trigger the collar after a rabbit has caught his attention, he will associate the spray with seeing the rabbit, not digging.
Positive training with treats and distractions is usually a better way to go. You can always use the money you would have spent on the collar (they are very expensive), on a trainer to come to your home and help you out.
