Hello!

What size dog crate is suggested for a female english mastiff? I have read that they average 150lbs full grown. I do not know the size of her parents. I am trying to decide if I should go with an XL crate listed for up to 110lbs 48x30x33h or to go for the biggest available. Seems like so much crate to go bigger but I can and will if it is a necessity. Just curious what most mastiff parents are selecting for their full grown female dogs. Thanks!Smile
You will absolutely need the largest one you can find - 48x30x33 is WAY too small. Mine is 4' high x 4.5' long x 3' wide and I think it's too small for an adult to be kept in for more than about 1/2 hour.
Yep.... absolutely go with the 54" crate. Smile
Thank you! I will go with the bigger crate. Does anyone know the most economical crate to get? What do you suggest for bedding? She is still a pup and may chew, so I may upgrade to something nicer later.
We got this one:

and bought a $45 baby crib mattress from walmart for it.
I was in the same spot with Luxie. So i ordered her a giant wire.(she got so hot in the other crate) when it came in I was shoked at how big it was and thought about sending it back for a smaller size. that was 2 months ago and now I am so happy i didnt sent it back, she is just perfect and loves her new one. It is amazing how fast they grown up.

I like the wire ones too. They're more expensive, but they last forever and I think it's a little less scary for pups than the enclosed kind.

Check craigslist. Sometimes you can find them for less than 1/2 of what you'd pay new.

This isn't the one I have (I got mine over a decade ago) but it's pretty reasonably priced for the size: http://www.petedge.com/product/Home-Kenn.../52456.uts I couldn't find a price on that one from Dr Foster & Smith so I'm not sure how it compares.

I use crib mattresses, too. I got mine from IKEA. Just be careful if she's a chewer - you may just want to pile up a bunch of old blankets and towels until she's past that stage so she doesn't choke on the mattress insides while you're gone.
Hello. Our English Mastiff Sophie (186 pounds @ 2 years) had a colossal crate. It was 54x37x45.
