feeding the puppy on eagle pack holistic puppy giant breed plus extras and the adult dog on james wellbeloved lamb and rice large kibble.
the james wellbeloved has a nice low protein level of 20% and i'm told the large kibble should slow eating down a bit,so lessening chance of bloat......any opinions on this food???
also....how long should i keep the puppy on the giant breed puppy food before moving on to an adult food? a year??

about time i updated!
these weights look about right?
Every puppy grows at a different pace, so there really is no right or wrong. Looking at his body condition is really the best way to tell if you are feeding the correct amount.
The risk of bloat increases as the dog gets older with the highest at risk being seniors, but establishing good eating habits now is important. The slower they eat without gulping, the better.
There are some good links and information on bloat here:
http://ginnie.com/gdv.htm
his eating habits are very odd. he gets fed twice a day, but often completely leaves one of the meals.
sometimes he will even leave both meals.
still 167 lbs at 13 months seems ok, he looks healthy and vet says he is in good shape.
i actually think he's not that keen on dog food. was raised on eagle pack holistic giant breed puppy, then switched at 1 year to james wellbeloved large kibble. he has always been the same, often completely turning his nose up at his dinner, but would still devour 'normal' food.
we supplement his dry food with fresh veg/ meat pouches/ tinned pilchards/ tinned meat/ cooked pasta/eggs/cooked and raw chicken etc....
but there doesn't seem to be a pattern, he just isn't interested sometimes. other days he'll devour both meals.
the james wellbeloved comes in 4 different flavours and we try all of them.
oh well....he's not skinny.
