Hi Everyone,

Greetings, this is my first post here. I really like this forum and all the valuable info here. We have 3 Mastiffs all from Lamars Mastiffs of Northern California: Samson 9.5 years, Sadie 2.5 years and Kahless The Unforgettable (pronounced kay-less, named after a Klingon from Star Trek) now 8 months and 1 week old. He's an apricot brindle. We co-own Kahless with Margo Lauritsen of Lamars Mastiffs, in my opinion, one of the premier and more responsible breeders in the country.

Margo has been breeding Mastiffs for over 23 years and has a long line of champions to her credit. She has participated in DNA studies, Mastiff rescue, and the general betterment of the breed. And she's always available to talk Mastiffs. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a beautiful and well-bred Mastiff with excellent temperament. Lamars Mastiffs Website

Kahless is out of Landondale's Beyond Yankee Blu (dad) and Lamars' Oh Yes I Am aka "Diva" (mom). Blu is currently the 3rd ranked Mastiff in the country and is doing extremely well on the show circuit, mostly showing on the East coast. He weighs a conservative 230 lbs.

His paternal grandpa is Southports Sherman (the most accomplished Mastiff ever) and his maternal grandpa is Lamars In It To Win It aka "Jimmy J" an accomplished champion also.

Here's Grandpa Sherman:

We started him off on Iams Large Breed Puppy for the first few months and then switched him over to Innova Large Bites Red Meat for a few more months and then switched him again to California Naturals Lamb & Rice which he is currently on. We supplement his diet with freshly cooked chicken and eggs and he LOVES fruits and vegetables of all kinds. He especially likes to pick figs off the tree himself when they are available. He is intolerant of almost anything dairy.

Kahless has been in a few shows in the puppy class with a few blue ribbons and 1 red ribbon. We don't expect much until he outgrows his gangly puppiness. But once he matures he should do quite well.

Robin
We switched Kahless to the Innova Large Breed Puppy food. We wanted to go with a food that included the prebiotics and other digestive aids. I will soon update his growth chart.
Kahless is so cute! We have a 16 wk old (tomorrow) male named Mac and they seem to be on the same growth pattern. They look so much alike! Looks like you have a great mastiff family!

Thanks very much! It's so nice to get a reply, I was beginning to think no one liked him... LOL

Do you have pics of Mac posted?

yep! All our mastiffs have pictures under the post Baby Mac! Mac and his real brother Duke (owned by my brother-in-law) got their last set of shots yesterday and did good at the vet. Mac & Duke both seem to be having extreme growing pains and were put on anti inflammatory for a week. Did Kahless have any problems?

He did get a little restless and uncomfortable at around 6 months. But that lasted a few days. What were Mac and Duke's symptoms?

Mac was having little crying fits everyonce and a while when nothing was going on and his glands in his hind legs are inflamed. he seems to get around just fine and is a very happy boy.... the just wanted to put him on the anti inflammatory meds to try to get the glands down to make sure nothing else was going on with the little guy!

I hope Mac is doing better now. Angel These guys grow so fast it's no wonder they have a few issues growing up.

I went into the kitchen during feeding time yesterday and got to see "little Kahless" standing next to Sadie at their shared feeding station - My jaw dropped! Exclamation And I see them every day. Evidently, my brain's compensatory mechanism was concealing just how big Kahless really is now. I nearly fell over in shock. Not only is he taller, wider/thicker, but longer by at least 10 inches. And he's just 9 months old vs her 2.9 years old.
I'm curious about how Mac's doing, too. Hope he's feeling better.

Robin, I think some days they really do just wake up looking twice as big as the day before Smile

No doubt about it! His next show is 11/1/09 in Pomona, mainly for practice.

Here's a recent pic of Kahless:

I love all that extra skin. He's a cutie. When he drinks & shakes his head, does the drool hit the ceiling yet? lol
Thanks! And not yet - thankfully! Smile
lol. People always laugh when they ask what I'm doing and I reply, "Cleaning the dog drool off the ceiling."
Kahless' rapid growth rate has settled down a bit he weighs in at 191.5 now at 10 months old. He's doing better showing now, he took Reserve at Pomona. He dwarfed the other 2 dogs in his class, both of which are older.

Wow - he's getting huge, and he looks very tall, too. I can't wait to see him when he's fully grown. Congrats on the reserve!

Thank you! Yes he is getting to be a big boy, and this after we cut him down a cup a day on his food for the last month.
Update: 5/1/10 Kahless is now 16 months old and weighs 225 lbs.

Holy Smokes he's a big boy! Gorgeous too!! Our "little" guy is only 12.5 wks & I can't believe that in a few more months he'll be 100 lbs, he was 35.4lbs on Sunday (exactly 12wks) but we are going to the vet for his shots tomorrow and I'm sure he'll be 40lbs he has been growing before my eyes this week!! I really like Kahless, he's an awesome looking dog!
WoW what a beautiful mastiff!
