Hi Everyone,

Greetings from So Cal. I really like this forum and all the valuable info here. We have 3 Mastiffs all from Lamars Mastiffs of Northern California: Samson 9.5 years, Sadie 2.5 years and Kahless The Unforgettable (pronounced kay-less, named after a Klingon from Star Trek) now 8 months and 1 week old. He's an apricot brindle. We co-own Kahless with Margo Lauritsen of Lamars Mastiffs, in my opinion, one of the premier and more responsible breeders in the country.

Margo has been breeding Mastiffs for over 23 years and has a long line of champions to her credit. She has participated in DNA studies, Mastiff rescue, and the general betterment of the breed. And she's always available to talk Mastiffs. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a beautiful and well-bred Mastiff with excellent temperament. Lamars Mastiffs Website

Kahless is out of Landondale's Beyond Yankee Blu (dad) and Lamars' Oh Yes I Am aka "Diva" (mom). Blu is currently the 3rd ranked Mastiff in the country and is doing extremely well on the show circuit, mostly showing on the East coast. He weighs a conservative 230 lbs.

His paternal grandpa is Southports Sherman (the most accomplished Mastiff ever) and his maternal grandpa is Lamars In It To Win It aka "Jimmy J" an accomplished champion also.

Here's Grandpa Sherman:

Kahless has been in a few shows in the puppy class with a few blue ribbons and 1 red ribbon. We don't expect much until he outgrows his gangly puppiness. But once he matures he should do quite well.

He's a very handsome boy! The pic with the kitten is my favorite Smile Thanks for the nice comments about the site, and sorry it took me so long to respond.

Are you taking handling classes?

Thanks Joy! Kahless has completed his puppy obedience but we haven't done any conformation classes per se. Instead we have been entering him in shows and a friend has been handling him for us. He does well in the ring.

Tomorrow we are attending the following AKC sanctioned event:
Quote:Join fellow dog owners and longtime dog experts to learn the basics about AKC dog events. Then, have the opportunity to practice showing your dog at an AKC-Sanctioned Match in a relaxed environment.
Members of AKC-affiliated clubs from the surrounding area will be available to meet with you and discuss a variety of dog show topics. Additionally, the AKC Clubs in this area will be offering free educational programs to teach dog show basics. This will be followed by a sanctioned match where you can show your dog. Exhibitors may run their dogs through an Obedience or Rally course as well. The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program will be explained and evaluations will be offered.

Planned educational activities include:
• Handling classes for both adults and children (JuniorShowmanship)
• Grooming tips and demonstrations
• Dog Show procedures
• Dog Show entry assistance
• Equipment advice for show and grooming
• AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluations
• Obedience and Rally run-throughs
• Agility Demonstrations
• A licensed dog show superintendent with information concerning dog shows in your area

That sounds like fun, we'll find out tomorrow! Smile
Awesome! That's great that he's doing well showing. Peabody is not a fan, so I haven't been pushing it. He's scared of the flapping tents over the entrance to the ring, and I feel so bad forcing him to do it we haven't shown at all this past year.

Good luck at the match!
