I've actually been following up on this for a while since I got my new dog. This and Yogi's chart has been extremely helpful, so I owe you guys a huge thanks! My dog's name is Sila, (it means 'fighter' in Polish), and she's a mix of 3/4 Great-Dane with 1/4 Neapolitan Mastiff; I absolutely love her. She seems to going kind of close to Ozzie's growth chart.
8 weeks - 12 pounds - 12 inches high (not long) 11 weeks (plus 2) - 19/20 pounds 14 weeks - 28 pounds - 19 inches high (if I remember correctly) Fortunately I don't have any problems with the measuring tape, haha. I have no idea on how big she is going to get. Do you guys have any updates? How much do you think she'll weigh when she's finished growing?

RE: Ozzie, the runt of the litter
birth, barely a pound
8 weeks... 6 pounds, 5 ounces 9 1/2 weeks... 8.2 pounds 11 weeks... 13.6 pounds 12 weeks... 15.8 14 weeks... 27.2 16 weeks... 34.5 pounds 18 weeks (plus 3 days) ... 47.5 pounds 20 weeks (minus 2 days)... 52 pounds 23 weeks (minus 2 days)... 62.7 pounds 25 weeks... 67.5 pounds Ozzie goes back to the vet this week to have sutures out (from neutering) so I'll have to update again. I haven't tried the tape measure thing lately, but he is a few inches shorter than Zoe at the shoulder, which would put him in the 23 inches range. Yesterday we took the dogs to my son's house to visit while we took my grandson to the play he is in. My son and DIL said that Ozzie sat around moaning, and at one point had his head up and was just about howling! Not something he does around here so I guess he missed us. I didn't expect that because there are dogs there, and Zoe loves to go there, but that's what he did. Plus he practically passed out in the car and at home, so I guess he was pooped from being distressed. He's a sweetie. Oh, and three days after his surgery Ozzie wandered down to the 'lake' (think big puddle) out back and managed to dip his hindquarters in the yucky water! I hosed him off and there wasn't any problem with it, luckily. I'm a little surprised to report that Ozzie now does the two 1.7 mile walks that we've always done with Zoe. Not a particularly fast pace, and he has developed a fan club of neighbors who have to come and pet him when they see him. I worried that it was too much exercise but he seems to love it. I also read that they need regular exercise so they don't become couch potatoes. Sue We need pictures of Sila! Just saw a HUGE great dane at PetCo the other day. Makes Ozzie look like the runt that he is! |

Ozzie thinks he can't jump up onto the bed (he needs a boost), and he gets down by sliding his front legs and chest down, so he doesn't really jolt himself. He's a chicken, but I'm glad it lasted long enough to get past the neutering, so it didn't cause a problem. |

RE: Ozzie, the runt of the litter
Ozzie sure has come a long ways since the 8 week mark! It looks like he has had a pretty steady growth rate.
![]() I'm a little curious why you had him neutered so early though? Most everything I've read says 18-24 months and even our contract with our breeder says no sooner than 18 months unless there's a medical issue..

RE: Ozzie, the runt of the litter
I didn't know it was early, 4 - 6 months is what was recommended by the vet.

RE: Ozzie, the runt of the litter
I was just curious. I know every time we go to the vets, the tech that pulls up Yogi's records immediately brings up the neuter issue, followed by "... and you know the cost goes by weight, right?" My reply is always "... I've already discussed our neuter plans with the vet.... and if cost was going to be a deciding factor, I probably wouldn't own a mastiff in the first place, would I?"

RE: Ozzie, the runt of the litter
I definitely wont be neutering Sila, and that's for sure; wait, she's a girl anyways!
I've neutered many of my past cats and it always drains them so much; it looks terribly painful! This Sunday I'll do another weigh up for Sila, I would have just done one now but she looks so peaceful when she's sleeping. A couple days ago I took her inside and realized that she has a cut on the side flap of her ear! It was bleeding a lot, must of been fresh. I sprayed it with wound oil and threw loads of wound powder on it to prevent any infections or maggots. I haven't followed up on Sila's injections, he's only gotten his first one. Do you think that this is retarding his growing process? Tomorrow I will make sure to take some pictures of him! I absolutely love him! Sorry that I'm just replying, but I only came to check this by luck - I thought that I would have gotten an email if anyone had replied! Talia |

She still has an inch or so on him at the shoulder. They are quite the pair. |

He had gotten a stockier look for a bit, and now he's more lanky looking again. I don't have to look at him and Zoe and try to decide who is bigger anymore. All the other dogs in the family appear to be shrinking when I see them lately, LOL. He may be bigger, but that sweet, gentle nature remains the same. Sue, happy mastiff (and labradoodle) mommy |

My husband's cousins's first comment when she saw him the day we got him was, "Oh my Charles, I hope he makes it." I was SO annoyed with her for saying that, and now when I look at the pictures from back then I can see why she did. His little legs were spindly, and he didn't look remotely like the puppy pictures I see on here. But the breeder said that he wanted no parts of being fed away from the litter, he was playful with his littermates, but if they (all twice to three times his size) ganged up on him he'd stick up for himself. They carried him around a lot and gave him a ton of attention, so much so that I wondered if he'd be 'spoiled'. But evidently it worked out just right because he is a perfect ambassador for the breed. There are a lot of senior citizens (us included) in our area and I'm amazed at how many of them will stop to ask what breed he is and want to pet him. I wonder if Zoe remembers how little he was, because he has 20 pounds on her now, LOL. Such a good boy, and a happy boy, which is all that really matters after all. |
