OMG! Wow, what a beautiful, beautiful baby!!! The best I advice I can give you is get him off EUK as soon as you possibly can- I can list dozens of reasons why to change but do not have the time in my day now. http://www.petfoodanalysis.com is a great resource. Eagle Pack is great..Precise..Invova...

Yeah I've read about it I bought the food right before I got him cause that's what he was eating. I wanna do some raw food mixed in but some say don't do raw/kibble. Blue buffalo was going to be my choice but I've seen there are many others but I may have to order online.

RE: Maximus (Max) English Mastiff DOB 12/3/09
Who says you can't do raw/holistic/dry? Moniter calories, protein %'s, and make sure he doesn't gain too fast. You can certainly mix it up. I am a dog groomer. If this was a show Collie or Golden where the protein in the hair strength made a difference- I would stick to one protein and leave it alone. However, we're talking Giant Breeds- who's bones need more than dry kibble so for example: supplement a sardine/week, fresh lamb, whole eggs, flaxseed meal, oatmeal, beef liver, sweet potatoes...the list goes on. Of course stick to all of the "never-feed" list of poisons. Also- something I learned NO LUNGS of any sort should be fed to dogs. Lungs are natural air filters- and we shouldn't recycle them into our babies. Actually- it's illegal to sell at grocery stores in Chicago. So there's a tiny list- watch his coat begin to shine and his poop to be more condensed and wonderful smelling...

RE: Maximus (Max) English Mastiff DOB 12/3/09
Started Max on Blue Buffalo and a little raw meats, He is huge I'm starting to worry if hes eating to much but I know hes not. Bout 2 Cups twice a day... tell me if thats too much.
He will be 14 weeks tomorrow and hes 60+lbs I have noticed that his bones are larger than alot of the mastiff pups I seen that are near his age...his front legs etc.. |

RE: Maximus (Max) English Mastiff DOB 12/3/09
Cool- raw meat is good
Don't forget to add sardines or some flaxseed meal/oil for the omega 3's and 6's. If the bag of says 4 cups and you're adding raw meat-then reduce it to make up for the calorie difference of the raw meat. Also, add some yogurt- PLAIN- non-flavored. It's really good for dogs. I give Theophilus about 3/4 cup/day. It balances his intestinal system and he sure loves it. Oh- we're going to drive you crazy with all of these things to add to our dogs diets- But- I do believe in food for holistic health. Plus- I'm not just hap-hazardly willy-nilly feeding my dogs whatever comes their way- it's thoughtful nutrition. Long before dog food was created-parents just fed their babies "scraps." OK- I think that should cover it for now. Good luck

RE: Maximus (Max) English Mastiff DOB 12/3/09
Max weighs right at 75lbs at 17wks.
He is on adult LB Blue buffalo and a little meat so He isnt getting 7.5-8 cups of food a day anymore I think his growth has slowed a little. He is very very playful and runs and jump all over everything if he gets hyped up so Ive been trying to calm him down so he wont hurt himself. He is still very shy of other dogs(hes still a pup and all) but he is getting better. |

RE: Maximus (Max) English Mastiff DOB 12/3/09
Max is 121lbs @ 6.75 mos hes still pretty gaingly right now. I have noticed that he will jump completely off the ground when hes really playful so I'm working on stopping that for now. Also he jumped into my expedition the other day....I normally just pick him up and put him in. Am I being to cautious not wanting him to jump in the car and jump and run circles while I'm playing with him?
Hopefully he grows into those ears lol Perdy Pup |

RE: Maximus (Max) English Mastiff DOB 12/3/09
Pictures don't seem to do justice to the enormity of this breed. I can only imagine how big Max is since my 6 1/2 month old is 111 lbs. and MASSIVE! My favorite conversation with my husband is: "Has B gotten bigger?" "Yup." Enough said. They really do grow before your very eyes. I remember when I could hold him on my lap. Now if I could just make him believe that he's too big for that now!

Well its been a bit .... weighed my little guy on the 18th he was 146.1 lbs
He was having loose stools for about 3 days then he threw up a wash cloth...go figure lol. Still put him on brown rice and boiled chicken for 2 days now doing better. |
